As a Colombian-born artist, adopted and raised in Australia, Claudia Nicholson occupies an ambiguous position between both Australian and Latino cultures. Her practice is a playful exploration of her heritage. Claudia´s work is multidisciplinary with a focus on video art and painting. She works extensively with her family, using performance to comment on social attitudes pertaining to kinship and familial relationships. Claudia´s paintings are appropriations of Latin American and Australian folklores and pop cultural references. The tensions of cultural hybridity and dislocation resonate throughout her practice. Claudia graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (honours) from the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW, in 2011. Since then, she has participated in group shows in Sydney at Kudos Gallery as well as 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art. She currently has a studio at Firstdraft Depot in Woolamaloo. https://vimeo.com/claudianicholson
